Cracking in concrete
Concrete cracks, sometimes shortly after a new structure is completed. A structure with cracks has reduced water resistance, even if the cracks are small hairlines. This increases the risk that oxygen and moisture can reach the reinforcement, potentially causing it to corrode, which can lead to serious damage.
Self-healing bio-based concrete
At least, that was the case… Nowadays, there is a technology that allows concrete to repair itself when cracks form. This technology was developed at TU Delft and uses microorganisms that produce limestone when they come into contact with oxygen and water.
Basilisk Contracting BV
Basilisk Contracting BV is responsible for the market introduction of this self-healing concrete, which can be applied to both existing concrete structures and new construction projects.
